In my golf swing, I push my hands forward before I start my backswing (like Craig Stadler) is this normal?

Eric S asked:

I do that, and it makes me hit the ball better, but I am wondering if it is normal or if any of you guys do it.

It’s not as popular as it used to be, but a lot of players still do it.

The movement is called a” forward press ” and is a favorite trigger for starting the backswing. Some players’ moves are more pronounced than others but every golfer has a trigger to start his swing.

It isn’t really prescribed as essential for a good swing, but many players have a little key move to get the swing started so as long as it works for you keep it up.
